By staying somewhere with your own kitchen you don't have to go out for every meal anymore, and by bypassing hotels in general you tend to make a big saving.

Being tucked away in a residential area or a secret countryside escape gives you an element of status above the all-inclusive hotel goers as you live like a local and your holiday experience is inevitably more authentic.

If you want to give your kids a holiday they won't forget, then get yourself to this Airbnb jet in Wales. Built in the seventies, this unique home looks looks like it has crash landed in the middle of the unique Wales country side. It houses 4 guests and has a simple toilet, cold wash basin and kitchenette but there is a larger kitchen and bathroom half a minute away from the jet site. Sit in the cock pit and pretend to be pilots, or for rainy days compete on the X-Box. For £119 a night this will be a holiday to remember.

With 7 bedrooms it sleeps 10 people however it's available for you to invite guests and many have thrown their 21st or 50th birthdays there. You'll have the whole windmill to yourself including an outdoor heated pool, trampoline and a games barn. There is so much to do, you won't want to leave! Prices start from £190 a night.

Looking for luxury? Then take yourself and 9 other guests away to this mansion in the south west of the UK with a heated indoor pool, a fully equipped gym, cinema room and incredible interior design for around £700 a night. You'll never be at a loss for things to do here and if you have kids it'll be all the more fun. Do day trips to the beach or go for long country side walks, you'll definitely get your fix of fresh air here.

Are you a Lord of the Rings fan? Then this will be the stay of your dreams. Not everyone can afford to fly out to New Zealand to visit where the trilogy was filmed but your second best option will be this quaint little hobbit home in Pengenffordd. Although it's glamping, it isn't necessarily luxurious as it's quite cosy and the bathroom is a 30 second walk away. However it's adorable, and has a wood fire oven which will make cooking 10x more fun. Plus, it's near the Literature and Arts Hay festival which takes place in May if you're looking for a super cultured weekend. Priced at £60 a night, it will be an experience like no other.

If you fancy a weekend to the big smoke, then stay at this trendy artist's lodge in Hackney. With some of London's best interior design you'll be sure to have a cultured stay in the East End, home to some of London's liveliest pubs, best gigs and cutest boutiques. As an Airbnb plus stay this place is a little harder to book but it's definitely worth a try. For £250 a night sleeping 4 people, it beats staying in any hotel.

Take in the stunning Scottish scenery in this magical AirShip for around £130 a night. It's small but spacious, warm and has a fabulous interior perfect for a couples holiday. Explore some of the Scottish Isles in the day and cosy up by the fire at night. It's dog friendly and one of Airbnb's own favourite spots which regularly features on their instagram so make sure you get it before it's booked up.

More glamping, but this time in Cambridgeshire. Stay in this upmarket self-sustained and eco friendly lodge which is a converted 1945 boat, and probably the cosiest boat you'll ever step foot in. Have hot chocolate by the fire pit and tell each other ghost stories, or have a bath outside on the deck and stare at Cambridge's stunning forest. You'll certainly get your dose of tranquility here, all for £100 a night for 2 people - way to be romantic!

Feel like you're in a Shakespearean drama in this Jacobean, castle-like house near York. The interior design makes you feel like you're living in a museum - it's very British and it's furnishing is astounding, you'll have to take Instagram snaps of every room (the shower room in particular). It has 9 bedrooms and 18 beds and a ginormous garden. Often used for hosting large parties or weddings you'll be sure to have a ball at Crayke Manor all for around £900 a night.

The best place to sty in Camber? Definitely. Camber Sands is one of the UK's prettiest sandy beaches on the south coast. The problem is there aren't many places to stay by the beach that are stylish. That's why The Blue House is the best spot to stay in as it's right on the beach with fabulous architecture. It sleeps 8 so is perfect for kids or big groups and you can dip in and out of the sea as much (or as little) as you like. Take a trip to Rye a mere 10 minute drive away to do some antique shopping and take in one of England's most historical towns with the cutest coffee shops around. For around £500, it's one of our favourite spots in town.

If you're looking for a Valentines break in the outdoors then almost literally stay outside in this bubble den in Northern Ireland. Fall asleep counting the stars and wake up naturally to the Irish sunrise. It's peaceful, cosy and you'll feel at one with nature. The hut sleeps two in a queen sized bed and has a cleanly bathroom with a bathtub to warm up in after long walks. Don't worry it's completely private and is priced at £165 a night.
