When I first start thinking about what I want for Christmas back in October or November, I have my heart set on glitzy, pretty pieces primed for the party season. Come December, following a swift reality check, I find that all I really want for Christmas is practical, wintery pieces that promise to keep me warm. It’s a truth universally acknowledged that it isn’t Christmas if you don’t receive a pair of socks, but I also like to use this time of year to bolster my beanies, stock up on scarves, and ask ever so nicely for cashmere. Cosy pieces make hugely popular presents at this time of year, whether you’re the one buying or requesting them. Firstly, they’re easy to shop for. Accessories require no prior knowledge of sizes, and your mum will happily shop for a jumbo knit without much guidance. Plus, there’s something wholesome about gifting something that feels like a wardrobe equivalent of a great big hug. Not to mention that when temperatures plummet and snow becomes a daily reality, it’s winter warmers that will please the crowd over fancy perfumes.
If there's one place I go to pad out my cold weather wardrobe, it's Uniqlo. It's a one-stop shop for classic closet staples all year round, but during winter it really comes into its own.
